Editing
Editing can take a number of forms, depending on the nature of your text, the stage of its development, and what you feel it needs, but will often involve one or both of the following:
- Copy Editing
Copy editing entails reviewing a manuscript for errors in grammar, spelling, and logical consistency, as well as deviations from your preferred style guide. The accuracy of factual details will also be verified, if applicable.
- Line Editing
Line editing involves suggesting qualitative changes in structure, organization, and phrasing to improve the clarity, elegance, and reader-friendliness of your prose.
Translation
Brian is available to translate passages of German, Greek, and Latin text into English for your personal reference, and will happily negotiate terms of use if you would like to reproduce such translated materials in a publication.
Transcription
Many handwritten primary source documents encountered in historical and genealogical research can be very difficult for modern readers to decipher due to unfamiliar orthographic and scribal conventions, not to mention the sometimes poor state of preservation of such documents. Brian has significant experience in transcribing medieval and early-modern handwriting (in languages including English, German, and Latin) into easily readable typed text.
Research
Consulting primary and secondary documentary sources, Brian will produce an informative summary of a specific topic, tailored to meet your particular needs in terms of scope and depth. Alternatively, he can assemble an annotated bibliography to assist in your own research of a particular subject.
